The 99 Names of Allah

Each Name has its own page with its meaning, an explanation, verses from the Qur'an, a reflection and today's practice.

  9. Name 9الْجَبَّارAl-JabbarThe Restorer, who mends what is broken and whose will prevails.
  10. Name 10الْمُتَكَبِّرAl-MutakabbirThe Supreme in Greatness, to whom all majesty belongs.
  11. Name 11الْخَالِقAl-KhaliqThe Creator, who determines all things by measure and brings them into being.
  12. Name 12الْبَارِئAl-Bari'The Maker, who brings creation into being flawless, distinct and in harmony.
  13. Name 13الْمُصَوِّرAl-MusawwirThe Fashioner, who gives every being its unique form and shape.
  14. Name 14الْغَفَّارAl-GhaffarThe Ever-Forgiving, who covers and pardons faults again and again.
  15. Name 15الْقَهَّارAl-QahharThe Subduer, who prevails over all and whom no power can resist.
  16. Name 16الْوَهَّابAl-WahhabThe Bestower, who gives freely and abundantly without expecting anything in return.
  17. Name 17الرَّزَّاقAr-RazzaqThe Provider, who creates and grants sustenance to every living being.
  18. Name 18الْفَتَّاحAl-FattahThe Opener, who opens closed doors, eases hardship and judges with truth.
  19. Name 19الْعَلِيمAl-AlimThe All-Knowing, who fully knows the hidden and the manifest.
  20. Name 20الْقَابِضAl-QabidThe Withholder, who constricts and holds back according to His wisdom.
  21. Name 21الْبَاسِطAl-BasitThe One who expands and extends provision, mercy and relief as He wills.
  22. Name 22الْخَافِضAl-KhafidThe One who, in His wisdom, lowers whom He wills and brings down arrogance.
