About
Al-Hakim comes from the root h-k-m, whose basic meaning is to restrain something in order to prevent corruption, and to make something firm and sound. The words hukm (judgment), hikmah (wisdom) and muhkam (well-established) all share this root, and all of them carry the sense of rightness, soundness and sound judgment.
Al-Hakim is the One who creates everything in its proper place and measure, whose commands and prohibitions serve a purpose and a benefit, and in whose works there is nothing random. People often cannot see the wisdom in events right away; this name reminds us that order and meaning are present even where we cannot see them.
The name appears very frequently in the Quran, usually paired with "Aziz" (the Almighty) or "Alim" (the All-Knowing). In Surah Al-Baqarah, the angels confess that they know only what Allah has taught them, and they praise Him as the Knowing, the Wise.

They said, "Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise."
Reflection
A day that didn't go to plan, a door that wouldn't open, a result that keeps getting delayed can all leave you disappointed. Remembering Al-Hakim means accepting that you don't have to understand the reason for everything right away. You can do your best and trust that the outcome, too, has its measure. Wisdom is also about you making your own decisions without haste, and putting things in their proper place.
