Al-Muqsit
The Just, who does everything with equity and puts every right in its place.
About
Al-Muqsit comes from the root q-s-t. Qist means justice and a fair share: keeping the measure full and giving everything its due. Interestingly, qasit, from the same root, describes someone who deviates from what is right, while muqsit describes the one who removes injustice and establishes fairness.
Allah's justice shows not only on the Day of Judgment but in the very balance of creation. He watches over the rights of the wronged and gives everyone their due. The Qur'an asks the same of people: the word muqsitin, "those who act justly," from the same root, is used in several verses to describe those whom Allah loves (for example, Al-Ma'idah 5:42 and Al-Hujurat 49:9).
The name al-Muqsit does not appear in this exact form as a description of Allah in the Qur'an. However, the phrase qa'iman bil-qist in Surah Aal-Imran, verse 18, links justice directly to the testimony of His oneness.
From the Qur'an
Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Reflection
Justice isn't tested only in courtrooms; it's tested when you listen to the other side of an argument, divide up a task, or settle a dispute between children. Al-Muqsit calls you to measure everyone with the same scale, whether you like them or not. Telling the truth even when it doesn't work in your favor is the hardest and most valuable form of fairness. Today, try asking yourself before each decision: "Is this fair to everyone involved?"
