Al-Barr
The Source of All Goodness, generous and faithful toward His servants.
About
Al-Barr comes from the root b-r-r, "to do good, to be true and faithful." The word brings together goodness, benevolence, keeping one's word and wide-reaching kindness.
God's goodness does not depend on whether His servants deserve it; He keeps His promises, is kind to His servants and is the One who initiates good. The word birr, used for goodness between people, comes from the same root; the phrase birr al-walidayn, kindness to parents, is one example.
Al-Barr appears in Surah At-Tur, where the people of Paradise recall that they used to call upon God before, and that He is the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
Reflection
Most of the good you receive arrives quietly, not because you earned it but because it was given to you. Al-Barr invites you to notice this unearned goodness and reflect it to those around you. A small kindness to your parents, to people close to you or to a stranger is this Name's trace in your life. Goodness widens the heart of the one who gives it, too.
