Al-Mumit
The One who creates death and brings life to its appointed end.
About
Al-Mumit comes from the root m-w-t, "to die," and means the One who causes death and who created death itself. It is usually understood alongside Al-Muhyi, the Giver of Life: the One who grants life is also the One who sets its limit.
The Qur'an does not present death as mere extinction but as something created with purpose. Surah Al-Mulk states that death and life were created so that people might show which of them is best in deed. Seen this way, death is a reality that gives life its weight and meaning.
The form Al-Mumit does not itself appear in the Qur'an, but many verses describe God as the One who "gives life and causes death." The second verse of Surah Al-Hadid is one of them.

His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent.
Reflection
Remembering death does not make life smaller; it makes each day more precious. Knowing that your time has a limit helps you bring the good things you keep postponing into today. Making peace with someone, telling the people you love that you love them, finishing a kindness you left half done: the best moment for these is usually now.
