Al-Muhsi

About
Al-Muhsi comes from the root h-s-y. The related word hasa means "pebble," and it is said that because the Arabs once used pebbles to keep count, the word ihsa' came to mean counting, recording one by one and fully encompassing.
Al-Muhsi is the One who knows everything by its number, measure and detail, missing not a single leaf, drop, breath or deed. His knowledge is never approximate; it is complete. The name reminds us that no good or bad deed, however small it seems, is ever lost.
The name does not appear in this exact form in the Quran, but verbs from the same root occur in many verses. Surah Maryam states that He has enumerated everyone and counted them precisely. Surah Al-Jinn says that He has counted all things in number, and Surah Ya-Sin tells us that everything has been recorded in a clear register.

Reflection
Sometimes you think the small good things you do don't matter, that no one notices them. Al-Muhsi overlooks nothing; a single kind word, a single moment of patience, is within His knowledge. That awareness keeps you from belittling small kindnesses and from taking small mistakes lightly. Caring about the details of your life is a way of respecting it.
