About
Ash-Shakur comes from the root sh-k-r, meaning to recognize a kindness, reward it and make it visible. Arabs would call an animal that thrived on very little feed "shakur." The name expresses that Allah never leaves even a small good deed of His servant unrewarded, but returns it many times over.
In the Qur'an, Ash-Shakur usually appears with Al-Ghafur or Al-Halim. Surah At-Taghabun says that a goodly loan given to Allah will be multiplied, and the verse ends: "Allah is most Appreciative and Forbearing." Surah Fatir describes the people of Paradise praising their Lord, who has removed all sorrow from them, with this very name.
This name reminds us that our own gratitude, and our appreciation of others' efforts, carries real value.

Reflection
There may be times when you feel your small acts of kindness don't really matter. Yet no sincere intention and no effort is ever lost. This awareness also asks something of you: to notice the efforts of the people around you and to thank them. Often, a simple thank-you is enough to change someone's day.
