Al-Muntaqim comes from the Arabic root n-q-m, which carries the sense of rejecting an injustice and answering a wrong. Among people the word can suggest anger or a personal grudge, but when it is used of Allah it is understood free of those associations: His requital springs not from rage but from justice and wisdom.
The name is a reminder that oppression does not go unanswered and that no wronged person's right is ever lost. In the Qur'an the phrase dhu intiqam, "Owner of Retribution," usually appears alongside al-Aziz, the Mighty, pairing power with justice. It is best understood together with the names around it; in the traditional listing it is followed immediately by al-Afuww, the Pardoning.
Surah Ibrahim assures the reader that Allah will never break His promise to His messengers, and the verse closes by describing Him as Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution. Read in context, the name is less a threat than a guarantee: the promise made to those who walk in truth will be kept.

When someone wrongs you, the urge to get even can be strong. Al-Muntaqim reminds you that the final word on justice is not yours to carry, and that no right is ever truly lost. This isn't about swallowing your hurt; it's about entrusting it to a just Lord and putting down the weight of resentment. Seeking your due through fair means and choosing to forgive both have a place within that trust. Meanwhile, take care that your own words and actions never infringe on anyone else's rights.
