Al-Mujib
The Responsive; the One who answers every call.
About
Al-Mujib comes from the root j-w-b, meaning to answer, to respond to a call and to meet a need. The related word ijabah refers to accepting an invitation or responding positively to a request.
Al-Mujib is the One who hears every call directed to Him and responds in the most fitting way. He decides the form and the timing of that response, while the servant turns to Him knowing He is never far. The name tells us that His door is always open and that no sincere call goes unheard.
In the Quran the name appears in the words of the prophet Salih to his people: "qaribun mujib," near and responsive. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah Himself declares that when His servants ask about Him, He is near and answers the one who calls upon Him.
From the Qur'an
And to Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. He has produced you from the earth and settled you in it, so ask forgiveness of Him and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive."
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
Reflection
Sometimes you pray and worry that the answer is late, or that it will never come. Yet Al-Mujib hears your call the moment you make it, and knows the right shape and time of the answer better than you do. Prayer is, before any list of requests, a turning toward Him and a remembering that He is near. And when you listen to the calls of the people around you, you carry a small reflection of this name into your own life.
