Al-Muqit
The Nourisher, who provides every creature's sustenance, sustains its strength and watches over it.
About
Al-Muqit shares its root (q-w-t) with qut, meaning food or sustenance. The name carries the sense of the One who gives every living being the nourishment its body and soul need, and who also watches over and maintains all things by His power.
Al-Muqit appears only once in the Qur'an, in Surah An-Nisa, where Sahih International renders it as "a Keeper" over all things, highlighting its sense of guarding and sustaining. Surah Hud adds that there is no creature on earth whose provision does not rest with Allah.
This name reminds us of the source of all sustenance, and of what it means to become a means of sustenance for others.
From the Qur'an
Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a share [i.e., reward] therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a portion [i.e., burden] therefrom. And ever is Allah, over all things, a Keeper.
And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register.
Reflection
Behind every bite you eat and every sip you drink are countless hands and countless efforts. Thinking that at the end of this chain there is One who watches over every creature's sustenance can change how you see your meals. You too can be a means of nourishment for others. A kind word, something shared, or a helping hand can be food for someone's day.
