Al-Mubdi'
The Originator; the One who brings creation into being for the first time, without precedent.
About
Al-Mubdi' comes from the root b-d-', meaning to begin, to do something for the first time and to bring it forth. The words ibtida' (beginning) and mabda' (starting point) come from the same root.
Al-Mubdi' is the One who brings things into existence for the first time, when no model existed before, and who initiates creation. Every newborn creature, every sprouting seed and every new day can be seen as a sign of this originating power. The name is usually mentioned together with Al-Mu'id, the One who restores creation.
The name does not appear in this exact form in the Quran, but verbs from the same root occur in many verses. Surah Al-Buruj states briefly and decisively that it is He who originates creation and then repeats it. Surahs Yunus, Ar-Rum and Al-Ankabut also point to the first creation as evidence of the resurrection.

Reflection
Starting something new is often the hardest step; you hesitate and wait for the right moment. Remembering Al-Mubdi' means seeing that every beginning ultimately rests on His creating. When you think of the One who brought everything into being from nothing, you realize your own small beginnings are not worthless either.
