About
Al-Malik comes from the root m-l-k, which means to own, to govern and to rule. The words mulk (dominion, possession) and mamlaka (kingdom) share this root. Al-Malik is the One who holds authority, who commands and forbids.
Human ownership and power are temporary, limited and entrusted. Allah's sovereignty was taken from no one, depends on no one and has no end. This name is a reminder that true ownership belongs to Him alone, and that whatever is in human hands has only been placed there for a while.
The name Al-Malik appears in Ta-Ha 20:114, Al-Mu'minun 23:116, Al-Hashr 59:23 and Al-Jumu'ah 62:1, and in Surah An-Nas He is called the King of mankind. In these verses Al-Malik is often joined with Al-Haqq (the Truth) and Al-Quddus (the Pure): His rule is both real and free of every flaw.

So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
Reflection
Your home, your phone, your time, even your body: everything you call "mine" has been lent to you for a season. Al-Malik invites you to handle what you hold with the care of someone looking after another's property. When the fear of losing something grips you, remembering that it was never truly yours can lighten the load. Living as a trustee protects you from both arrogance and anxiety.
