Ar-Rashid comes from the root r-sh-d, which conveys finding the right way, maturity, sound judgment, and wise decision-making. The related word rushd refers to reaching the maturity needed to manage one's own affairs. Rashid means both one who is on the right path and one who directs others to it.
Allah being Ar-Rashid is understood in two ways: first, that all His acts and decrees are perfectly sound and wise; second, that He shows His servants what is right and leads them toward maturity. The name is closely related to al-Hadi, but rushd goes beyond knowing the way to include walking it with good judgment.
The name Ar-Rashid does not appear in this exact form as a description of Allah in the Qur'an. However, the word rashad, from the same root, appears in the prayer of the youths who took refuge in the cave in Surah Al-Kahf, verse 10. Their prayer is a beautiful example of asking Allah for right direction in a difficult situation.

[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."
Reflection
