Al-Hafiz

About
Al-Hafiz comes from the root h-f-z, meaning to protect, guard, preserve and memorize. The word hafiz, used for someone who has memorized the Qur'an, comes from the same root. The name expresses that Allah protects all beings, sustains the order of creation and loses nothing.
Al-Hafiz appears directly in several places in the Qur'an; in Surah Hud we read, "Indeed my Lord is, over all things, Guardian." In Surah Yusuf, Jacob, worried about his son, says, "Allah is the best guardian." Surah Al-Hijr states that the Qur'an itself is preserved (Al-Hijr 15:9).
This name gives a person both a sense of security and a sense of trust. Someone who knows they are protected takes greater care of what has been entrusted to them.
From the Qur'an
But if you turn away, then I have already conveyed that with which I was sent to you. My Lord will give succession to a people other than you, and you will not harm Him at all. Indeed my Lord is, over all things, Guardian."
He said, "Should I entrust you with him except [under coercion] as I entrusted you with his brother before? But Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful."
Reflection
When you worry about the people you love, remembering that you cannot control everything can bring you peace. Like Jacob, you can do your part and leave the rest to the best of guardians. At the same time, you too have been entrusted with things to protect: a secret, a promise, a relationship, a responsibility. Today, try giving one of them a little more care.
