About
Al-Mudhill comes from the root dh-l-l, meaning to become lowly or to lose one's strength and standing. The same root appears in a positive sense in the Qur'an, in "the wing of humility" one lowers toward one's parents (Al-Isra 17:24). The root holds both the idea of being brought low and that of gentle humility.
Al-Mudhill is paired with Al-Mu'izz and does not appear in the Qur'an as a title. Its meaning is found in the supplication of Surah Aal-Imran: "You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good." It is worth noticing that the verse continues with "in Your hand is [all] good": both honor and humbling are decreed with wisdom.
The Qur'an reminds us that Allah does not wrong people in the slightest; it is people who often wrong themselves through their own choices. This name teaches that arrogance and injustice bring no lasting advantage, and that everything is subject to divine justice.

Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. …
Indeed, Allah does not wrong the people at all, but it is the people who are wronging themselves.
