About
Al-Basir comes from the root b-s-r, meaning to see and to perceive. The word basirah, meaning deep insight, shares the same root. The name expresses that nothing lies outside His sight.
Al-Basir appears in many verses of the Qur'an, often alongside As-Sami'. In Surah Ash-Shura, right after "There is nothing like unto Him" comes "and He is the Hearing, the Seeing", a reminder that His seeing is unlike that of any creature. Surah Al-Mulk points to birds spreading and folding their wings in the sky to show how His sight encompasses every detail.
This name both reassures you that you are never alone and invites sincerity in what you do. A kindness no one else notices has still been seen.
From the Qur'an
Do they not see the birds above them with wings outspread and [sometimes] folded in? None holds them [aloft] except the Most Merciful. Indeed He is, of all things, Seeing.
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Reflection
Don't assume that a good deed nobody noticed was wasted; it was seen. Don't assume that a hardship you carry alone goes unseen either. This awareness helps you live with sincerity rather than for show. Today, try looking a little more closely at the small details around you, like a bird in flight or the tired face of someone near you.
