About
Al-Mu'izz comes from the root '-z-z, meaning to be strong, invincible and precious. From it comes 'izzah: honor, dignity and might. The name Al-Aziz shares this root. Al-Mu'izz is the One who bestows that honor on others.
The name does not appear in the Qur'an as a title, but its meaning is clear in the supplication of Surah Aal-Imran: "You honor whom You will." Surah Fatir adds that all honor belongs to Allah, and that good words and righteous deeds rise up to Him.
This name invites you to ask where you look for your dignity. Real honor is not fed by the approval or power of others, but by truthfulness and goodness.
From the Qur'an
Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. …
Whoever desires honor [through power] - then to Allah belongs all honor. To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it. But they who plot evil deeds will have a severe punishment, and the plotting of those - it will perish.
Reflection
Think about whose approval you need in order to feel worthy. Dignity that depends on how others see you can crumble at the slightest criticism. The respect that comes from honest words and good conduct is an honor no one can take away. When you honor someone else today, you are protecting your own dignity as well.
