About
Al-Jabbar comes from the root j-b-r, whose earliest meaning is to set a broken bone and bind it so it heals; a splint is called jabira. The root also carries the senses of setting things right by force, of carrying out one's will, and of loftiness.
The name holds meanings that complete one another: Allah mends broken hearts, makes up what is lacking, sets right what has gone wrong, and nothing can resist His will. His power is not for oppression, but for repair and for putting things in their proper place.
Al-Jabbar appears as a divine name in Al-Hashr 59:23. When the same word describes human beings, however, it turns negative and means a tyrant; the Qur'an notes that neither John nor Jesus was jabbar (Maryam 19:14, 19:32). The contrast shows that such power is flawless only in Allah.

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Grantor of Security, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.
