Al-Mani'
The Preventer, who withholds as He wills and shields His servants from harm.
About
Al-Mani' comes from the root m-n-ʿ, meaning to prevent, to hold back, and to protect. The name carries a double meaning: it includes both withholding something and guarding someone from it.
Allah's being al-Mani' shows sometimes in not granting a servant something, and sometimes in shielding them from harm. When you don't get what you wanted, it can feel like a loss, yet that very barrier may be protection from a harm you can't see. Giving and withholding are understood together; the Prophet's supplications include the words, "O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold."
The name al-Mani' does not appear in this exact form in the Qur'an, but its meaning is clearly expressed in Surah Fatir, verse 2: whatever mercy Allah opens for people, none can withhold, and whatever He withholds, none can release after Him.

Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy - none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds - none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Reflection
Think of something you wanted badly that never happened. What looked like a disappointment back then may have steered you toward a different door. Al-Mani' reminds you that not every "no" is a loss; sometimes it's protection. Seeing things this way makes it easier to meet obstacles with patience and reflection rather than frustration. You can also choose, now and then, to hold yourself back from habits that do you harm.
