Al-Qabid

About
Al-Qabid comes from the root q-b-d, meaning to grasp in the hand, to hold, to constrict and to draw back. Al-Qabid is the One who, by His wisdom, holds back, narrows and limits what He wills.
This name is usually reflected on together with the name that follows it, Al-Basit (the Expander). Provision, opportunities and the course of life sometimes narrow and sometimes widen, and both lie within His decree and wisdom. Constriction is not a punishment or a sign of being forgotten; often it is a season that invites a person to pause, reflect, be patient and turn back to Him.
The name Al-Qabid does not occur in this exact form in the Qur'an; it entered the list of the Beautiful Names through hadith narrations. Its meaning, however, is stated plainly in Al-Baqarah 2:245: "it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance." Verses such as Ar-Ra'd 13:26 and Al-Isra 17:30 likewise teach that the widening and narrowing of provision is in His hands.

Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.
Reflection
