About
Al-Wahhab comes from the root w-h-b, which means to give freely, to give as a gift. The words hiba (gift) and mawhiba (endowment, talent) share this root. The intensive fa''al pattern stresses that this giving is abundant, continuous and unconditional.
People usually give to one another hoping for something back, whether thanks, return or benefit. Al-Wahhab gives without expecting anything and often before being asked. Life, our abilities, the people we love and our capacity to understand are all examples of His gifts.
The name appears in Aal-Imran 3:8, Sad 38:9 and Sad 38:35. Many prophetic prayers in the Qur'an begin with "grant me" (hab li): Zechariah asking for a child (Aal-Imran 3:38), Solomon for a kingdom (Sad 38:35) and Abraham for wisdom (Ash-Shu'ara 26:83).

Reflection
