The One, unique in His essence, attributes and acts.
About
Al-Wahid comes from the root w-h-d, "to be one, to be single." God's oneness is more than being one in number: it means He has no partner and no likeness in His essence, His attributes or His acts.
The word tawhid, the affirmation of God's oneness, comes from the same root. It is the foundation of Islamic belief: recognizing that despite the multitude of things, everything depends on a single Creator. That recognition also gathers a scattered heart in one direction.
In the Qur'an, Al-Wahid appears in many places, most often paired with Al-Qahhar (for example, Ar-Ra'd 13:16). In Surah Al-Baqarah, "your god is one God" is stated together with the Names Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim.

And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Reflection
Throughout the day, many things pull your attention in different directions: expectations, worries, other people's approval. When you are tied to so many centers, it is natural to feel scattered inside. Al-Wahid reminds you that when you turn toward one center, your heart gathers itself too.
